Welcome to Templeton Golf Club
Nestled just 20 minutes from Christchurch CBD and only 10 minutes from Christchurch Airport, Templeton Golf Club has been welcoming golfers since 1931. Whether you're a first-time visitor, an experienced golfer or considering membership, you'll find a friendly club, a relaxed atmosphere and a course that's enjoyable to play all year round.
Our Par 73 course offers a rewarding challenge for golfers of every ability. Natural contours, mature trees and a thoughtfully designed layout combine to create an enjoyable round that rewards good course management while remaining welcoming to golfers of all skill levels.
A Course Shaped by Nature
One of Templeton's defining features is its natural landscape.
Built on the historic bed of the Waimakariri River, the course follows gentle natural undulations that have shaped the land over thousands of years. Rather than constructing artificial hills and mounds, the course embraces the terrain created by the river's historic channels, giving each hole its own character and providing excellent natural drainage throughout the year.
Those natural contours reward thoughtful course management, creating a layout that's enjoyable for social golfers while continuing to challenge more experienced players.
A Rich History
Golf has been played on this land for more than a century.
The earliest games date back to 1915, when horse artillery officers stationed at Templeton during the First World War created informal holes to enjoy the game during their spare time. Templeton Golf Club was officially established in 1931 and, through the dedication of countless volunteers, members and staff, has grown into one of Canterbury's most welcoming golf clubs.
Today, we continue to invest in our course, facilities and member experience while preserving the friendly community spirit that has been at the heart of Templeton Golf Club for generations.
A Course Rich in Natural Beauty
Templeton Golf Club is more than just a place to play golf. The course is home to mature trees, established gardens and an increasing number of native plantings, creating a peaceful parkland setting that changes beautifully throughout the seasons.
As part of our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, we're continuing to enhance the course with native species, including kowhai, that provide habitat for local birdlife while complementing the natural character of the course.
The ecological value of the property has been recognised by the Christchurch City Council, with areas of the course identified as a Site of Ecological Significance. This recognition reflects the important role the club plays in protecting and enhancing one of Christchurch's unique natural environments.
